UMT SafeMat UMT SafeMat
SafeMat: Steering the Future of Food Packaging Safety The Joint Technological Unit SafeMat 22.07 acts as the National Reference Laboratory for Food Contact Materials (FCM), focusing on preparing for and facilitating the evolution of EU regulations on food contact materials. Positioned at the intersection of engineering and consumer needs, we aim to guide the transition from a linear to a circular economy where materials are increasingly recycled, reused, and repurposed. Our work encompasses: - Risk analysis from molecular levels to distribution, collection, and recycling systems. - Development of rapid, in-situ methods for characterizing and analyzing substance transfer risks. - Incorporation of these approaches in prototyping articles and shaping processes. We benefit from the vibrant ecosystem of the University Paris-Saclay's "Agro" pole and are closely integrated with the UMR 0782 SayFood Paris-Saclay Food and Bioproduct team.
